our patio makeover

When Bobby and I began our Canadian apartment search last autumn, we each compiled a list of 'must-haves' that we couldn't live without. Mine included wood floors and proximity to a good grocery store. Bobby was concerned with ensuite laundry and a balcony to relax on in the evening.

We managed to find all of the above in our current apartment, but Bobby's balcony has been somewhat of a disappointment. We've been using it as a dumping ground for things that are too big to fit in our coat closet.

But now that we have some money saved up and the weather is finally, you know, not freezing, we're able to focus our attention outdoors. We decided to spruce up the patio just in time for our Canada Day and 4th of July celebrations.

We have a great view of the courtyard and neighboring skyscrapers so the hard work was really already done for us. All we had to do was price-compare furniture, a rug and some greenery at a few local home improvement stores, and voila! We managed to put our new patio space together in under three hours, for less than $250.

We're planning on adding an herb garden and some other decorative touches, but I think we've earned a break for today.

Best of all, Maple approves, which is always our utmost priority. ;)

Happy summer everyone!
